The situation escalated quickly. Police encountered the woman, identified by authorities as 49-year-old Pamela Cisneros, while she was reportedly holding a knife in each hand. Officers ordered her to drop the weapons, and authorities said several officers attempted to use Tasers before two officers fired their service weapons. Cisneros was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

One of the people stabbed died from their injuries, while another victim was hospitalized. NBC New York reported that the attacks appeared to be random and unprovoked, although investigators continued examining the circumstances surrounding the incident.
